Two individuals, a 66-year-old woman and her worker, were arrested by the police on Tuesday (April 30) for allegedly trespassing in a forest area planted with Musang King durian trees in Raub, Pahang.

Following this incident, Raub MP Chow Yu Hui defended the woman and unauthorized durian farmers in general on his Facebook page. He also appealed for donations to support the farmers, as they were instructed by the Kuantan High Court to pay RM600,000 to the Pahang government after their attempt to challenge eviction notices was rejected.

However, the Raub MP is facing criticism from social media personality Ulasan Apek Cina for defending the farmers despite their involvement in illegal activities and asking the public to contribute the RM600,000. Ulasan Apek Cina also questioned the MP’s use of Mandarin language in his post.

He expressed, “The police nabbed 2 illegal trespassers in Raub. One thing surprises me, the DAP Member of Parliament for Raub. I noticed him posting and doing a live video only in Mandarin. I don’t understand why. Couldn’t this issue be shared in Bahasa Melayu so that everyone can comprehend?”

“He requested the public to donate RM600,000 to the illegal planters to cover the court costs they incurred from the Pahang state government. This is what I ponder about, they are illegal planters, they encroached into the forest, utilized its resources, evaded taxes, and committed four crimes.”

He further questioned why the public should aid them when they are facing the consequences of their actions.

Should the public assist the illegal farmers? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
