It might sound like a fantasy, but it’s not a monkey business gimmick.

Wuzhishan Scenic Area in China, a hotspot for sightseers, recently made waves by posting a job opening for a Monkey King impersonator, and the response has been nothing short of viral.

For a monthly sum of 6,000 yuan (approximately RM3,900), all you need to do is slip into a monkey costume, unwind in a cave nestled at the mountain’s base, and indulge in treats served by enthusiastic tourists.

Academic qualifications? None needed, says a manager from the site, as reported by CNN. The essential criteria include a passion for the character, a knack for acting, and the ability to exude liveliness, cheerfulness, and approachability to engage with visitors.

The Monkey King, also known as Sun Wukong, is a legendary figure in Chinese mythology and literature, prominently featured in the classic novel “Journey to the West” penned by Wu Cheng’en during the Ming Dynasty in the 16th century.

Born from stone, Sun Wukong possesses superhuman strength and the extraordinary ability to transform into 72 different animals and objects. The character’s primary mission is to embark on adventures to retrieve sacred scriptures from India.

The main responsibility of the Monkey King impersonator at the tourist spot is to joyfully accept snacks from visitors, ranging from apples and instant noodles to an abundance of bananas.

Rest assured, you won’t have to devour every morsel offered. The manager explained that actors typically save some items to share with their colleagues after their shifts.

The working hours are from 9 am to 12 pm and 2 pm to 6 pm daily, as reported by 8world. The manager mentioned that the site already has two other impersonators portraying the character, and they are now looking for one more person to fill an additional role.

Furthermore, the base salary of 6,000 yuan can be adjusted based on the employees’ performance, according to the manager. In response to the job listing going viral, the tourist destination has even announced free entry for all visitors from January 8 to February 8, as reported by The Straits Times
