“Made in China?” — Viral TikTok Videos Claim Luxury Brands Like Hermes, Dior Are Actually OEM-Produced in China

Viral Videos Allegedly Expose That Luxury Brands Are OEM-Made in China, Not Europe

A wave of viral TikTok videos from Chinese OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) factories has stirred controversy by claiming that high-end luxury brands such as Hermes, Chanel, Dior, and others are actually made in China—not Europe, as commonly believed.

The revelations have sparked heated discussions not just in China, but also in neighbouring countries including Malaysia, where users are questioning the true origin and value of designer goods.

SEN Bags Claims “Same Factory, Same Materials, Just No Logo”

One of the most prominent accounts is TikTok’s @senbags (SEN Bags), which openly claims that their workers are the same individuals who manufacture boutique bags for global fashion houses.

In one video, a representative walks viewers through materials used—leather, zippers, and metals—asserting they are identical to those used in branded goods. The only missing detail? The logo.

“They buy from us when the bags are nearly finished. Then they just add logos and exclusive packaging,” the man claimed, while mocking consumers who pay full price for luxury names.

He even encouraged buyers to skip the middlemen and buy directly from OEM factories at a fraction of the cost.

Despite Criticism, SEN Bags Keeps Posting

As expected, backlash followed. There were calls to ban the SEN Bags account, but the factory operators quickly countered with backup accounts and insisted they would continue producing quality bags.

Other accounts followed suit. TikTok’s @lunasourcingchina (Luna Sourcing China) posted similar content, showing factories that allegedly produce hair accessories for Chanel, Dior, MAC, Shu Uemura, and others.

Some even claimed they supply apparel and accessories for global brands such as Ralph Lauren, Lululemon, and Brooks Brothers.

Netizens React With Curiosity, Skepticism & Humour

While some netizens dismissed the claims as a marketing gimmick, others seemed amused or intrigued.

“I don’t care about the logo. Where do I buy these directly?” one user asked.

Others joked about the situation, calling it an “Uno reverse” from China in response to past U.S. tariffs under the Trump administration.

Skeptics questioned the credibility of such claims, pointing out the lack of direct confirmation from any luxury brand.

Brand Loyalty Unshaken, But Investment Value May Suffer

Despite the uproar, the luxury fashion industry may remain largely unaffected—at least among diehard fans. Brands like Louis Vuitton maintain that their products are manufactured only in dedicated workshops in France, Spain, Italy, and the U.S.

Still, this kind of exposure could tarnish the investment value of luxury goods. Bags from brands like Gucci and Louis Vuitton have already seen declining resale prices due to knock-offs flooding the market. To protect exclusivity, some luxury houses have gone as far as burning unsold stock, with Chanel and Burberry among the names reported to have done so.
