Day by day, Malaysia is becoming a more popular destination for foreign tourists, not just for its natural beauty but also for the delicious food available here. Popular dishes among tourists include satay, nasi lemak, roti canai, laksa, and more. They also enjoy trying viral snacks that locals love.

Foreign Tourist Tries Viral Jelly Balls in KL for RM8 Per Skewer

Recently, a post went viral on TikTok (@lukedamantclip) showing a traveler named Luke Damant strolling through Kuala Lumpur, believed to be around Pasar Pudu. One of the foods that caught Luke’s attention was the jelly balls popular among kids. Typically, a skewer of this snack comes with seven jelly balls in various colors and flavors.

Attracted by the colorful and beautiful treat, Luke decided to try a skewer of jelly balls. He found them refreshing since they were chilled with ice, making them perfect for Malaysia’s hot weather. While the strawberry-flavored jelly didn’t taste as strong as real fruit, Luke enjoyed the chewy texture.

Luke also mentioned that the snack cost RM8 per skewer, roughly more than RM1 per jelly ball.

Netizens Question the High Price of Jelly Ball Skewers

Looking at the comments, some netizens mentioned that Luke’s way of enjoying the jelly balls made them want to try it too.

“You make me want to try (jelly balls). I’m a local,” said a TikTok user.

However, many people questioned the high price of the jelly balls, which is more than usual.

“RM8 is too expensive. Usually, the price of jelly balls is around RM2.50 to RM5,” stated an individual.

Many believe that vendors should be honest and sell at the right price, even to foreign tourists.

“RM8 for one skewer! That’s not right, you need to be honest even if he (Luke) is a foreigner,” explained another netizen.

Some individuals pointed out that the RM8 price might be normal due to the high cost of business spaces in the city center.

Our check found that jelly balls sold online are priced around RM2 to RM5 per skewer (5 to 7 jelly balls).
