Going viral on TikTok, a four-year-old kid getting engaged in Madura, Indonesia, sparked various reactions from netizens. Most expressed shock since the child is still underage.
It’s understood that the girl isn’t four, as claimed, but seven, while her fiancé is also a child.
The engagement ceremony involving underage Indonesian kids on Wednesday not only caught the attention of the local community but also became a topic of discussion among Malaysians.
A viral video uploaded on TikTok under the account name @massaki90 showed a young girl in a green dress shaking hands with guests during the ceremony in Desa Banjar Tabuluh, Kecamatan Camplong, Madura, East Java.
The girl also received a gold ring and bracelet from the boy’s family. According to her parents, the engagement was a ‘Nazar’ they made while in Saudi Arabia. The owner of the @massaki90 account explained that the girl would only get married after finishing her studies at college.
Although somewhat unusual, the incident in Desa Banjar Tabuluh, Kecamatan Camplong, Madura, East Java, is considered a normal occurrence there.
After the video gained attention, their family was visited by representatives from the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN) of East Java province and local government officials from Sampang Regency to warn them not to violate established regulations.
