Zayn Rayyan’s mother weeps after ordered to enter defence in child neglect case
Zayn Rayyan’s Mother Weeps as Court Orders Her to Enter Defence
PETALING JAYA: When the Sessions Court ordered the mother of six-year-old Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin, who passed away in 2023 due to autism, to file her defence on allegations of child negligence, she sobbed.
Court Ruling and Emotional Reaction
After Judge Dr. Syahliza Warnoh declared that the prosecution had effectively built a prima facie case against Ismanira Abdul Manaf, 30, she broke down in tears in court. Ismanira kept crying as her mother-in-law and other family members held her and consoled her after the court adjourned.
Speaking to their attorneys, her spouse, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, 30, who was also found not guilty of the joint allegation, seemed composed. More than ten members of the couple’s family, including Zaim’s father, Mohd Zahari Reba, were present in the public gallery.
Trial Schedule
The court adjourned for lunch, with the trial scheduled to resume at 2 p.m., starting with Ismanira as the first defense witness.
Legal Representation
Outside the courtroom, Ismanira’s lawyer, Haresh Mahadevan, said they plan to call four additional defense witnesses, including Zaim. Haresh was accompanied by co-lawyers Ramzani Idris and Lavanesh Haresh. The prosecution is represented by deputy public prosecutors Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin, Aqharie Durranie Aziz, and Nur Sabrina Zubairi.
Charges Against the Couple
On March 13, Zaim and Ismanira, as the first and second accused respectively, claimed trial to a joint amended charge of child neglect of Zayn Rayyan. They are accused of committing the offense from 12 p.m. on Dec 5, 2023, until about 9:55 p.m. on Dec 6, 2023, around the area of Block R, Apartment Idaman, Damansara Damai, and up to a nearby stream.
Timeline of Zayn Rayyan’s Disappearance
Zayn Rayyan was reported missing from Block R on Dec 5 after his mother fetched him from school at 12:30 p.m. His body was found a day later in the stream, about 200 meters from his home.
