Court to decide fate of Zayn Rayyan’s parents today
The Petaling Jaya Sessions Court is set to rule today on whether Zaim Ikhwan Zahari and Ismanira Abdul Manaf must enter their defense or be acquitted of child-neglect charges over the death of their autistic son, Zayn Rayyan, in December 2023.
Courtroom Access and Security
The corridor to the courtroom is cordoned off, and the media is not allowed in yet. The couple is currently seated in the waiting area outside the courtroom. Only about 10 journalists are allowed to follow the proceedings in the open court.
Family members of the couple will be allowed in the courtroom but must surrender their cell phones and electronic devices before entering.
Charges Against the Couple
On March 13, Zaim and Ismanira, as the first and second accused, respectively, claimed trial to a joint amended charge of child neglect of Zayn Rayyan. They are accused of committing the offense from noon on December 5, 2023, until about 9:55 p.m. on December 6, 2023, around the area of Block R, Apartment Idaman, Damansara Damai, up to a nearby stream.
Timeline of Zayn Rayyan’s Disappearance
Zayn Rayyan was reported missing from Block R on December 5 after his mother fetched him from school at 12:30 p.m. His body was found a day later in the stream, about 200 meters from his home.
Inside the Courthouse
The media has not yet been granted access to the courtroom’s restricted corridor. Right now, the pair is seated in the courthouse waiting area. Only roughly ten journalists are permitted to see the court hearings in public.

As the first and second accused, respectively, Zaim and Ismanira claimed trial on March 13 to a joint revised accusation of Zayn Rayyan’s child neglect. They are suspected of perpetrating the crime in the vicinity of Block R, Apartment Idaman, Damansara Damai, up to a nearby stream, between noon on December 5, 2023, and around 9:55 p.m. on December 6, 2023.
