Following the backlash, Ampang Point Shopping Centre issued a statement addressing the matter.
According to the mall, the event was operated by a licensed third-party organiser. It stated that inspections were conducted on-site by the Department of Veterinary Services in January and February, and the organiser was found to be compliant with regulations.

The mall also explained that the animals were handled by experienced caretakers appointed by the organiser and that feeding and rest schedules were strictly followed.

Management further clarified that the alpaca was not kept at the mall continuously.
“The alpaca is not kept at the mall on a continuous basis.”
The statement added that the alpaca was only brought in for weekend sessions and that any event involving animals must meet regulatory and welfare standards before approval is granted.
“We acknowledge the concerns raised and have taken note of the feedback received. In light of this, the petting zoo event officially ended yesterday (18 February). We will also be reviewing how similar events are assessed moving forward.
“We understand that many people feel strongly about animal welfare, and we respect those views. The well-being of animals involved in events held on our premises is important to us.”
Event Concludes After Public Reaction
Following the incident and public reaction, the petting zoo event officially ended on 18 February. While the organiser was stated to be compliant with inspections, the viral video prompted wider discussion about animal welfare standards at public events.
