Spanish Club President Sparks Outrage Over Anti-Muslim Act
Incident Sparks Outrage In Spanish Football

A major controversy has erupted in Spanish football after a lower-division club president was accused of mocking his own Muslim players. The incident adds to growing concerns over repeated insensitive behaviour towards Muslim individuals within the sport.
Chasing Players With Pork “As A Joke”
The president of CDC Moscardo, Javi Poves, was seen in a viral video chasing Muslim players while holding pork products and shouting at them to eat it. The act was widely condemned as disrespectful, offensive, and potentially racist. Although the video was later deleted, it had already sparked anger across social media.
Apology Fails To Calm Backlash
Poves later claimed it was merely a joke and a publicity stunt, saying, “It was just a joke, I did not intend to offend anyone.” However, the explanation did little to calm criticism. He eventually stepped down from his position and issued an apology, though many continued to question his actions.
Not The First Controversy
This is not the first time Poves has been involved in controversy. He previously renamed a club to “Flat Earth FC” and used official platforms to voice anti-vaccine views. The latest incident has now prompted an investigation by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), which may take serious action if the act is deemed to involve hate-related behaviour.
Growing Pattern Of Insensitive Behaviour
The incident also comes after previous cases where Muslim players were mocked by fans, including chants targeting their religion. The repeated nature of such incidents has raised concerns about the environment within Spanish football and how seriously these issues are being addressed.
