Everyone should try learning at least one musical instrument in their life. It helps stimulate the brain, improve memory, and teach new skills. And what better time to start than as a kid?
In a recent video shared by @violinyixuan, there’s a heartwarming moment of a young boy and his cousin celebrating their grandpa’s birthday in Singapore.
Playing Since He Was 2
In the video, a little girl and boy stand in front of their grandpa’s birthday cake, singing “Happy Birthday.” The girl sings while the boy plays the violin.
The boy’s mother, Yi Xuan, shared that her 3-year-old son, Tomi, has been playing the violin since he was just 2.
“He can play all the songs in Suzuki Book 1 and is almost done with Suzuki Book 2. So, he knows around 20 songs,” she said.
A Young Violin Prodigy
Yi Xuan explained that she has been a professional violinist for over 20 years and has been teaching Tomi to play, following her footsteps. Tomi practices daily for 30 minutes to an hour.
She mentioned that Tomi often plays “Happy Birthday” for family members on their birthdays. A previous video of him playing for his uncle’s birthday even went viral.
“My advice for anyone wanting to learn the violin is that any age is a good time to start. However, for very young children, it’s best if parents learn alongside them,” Yi Xuan advised.
