404 Club Not Found Kuala Lumpur, located in TREC KL, is shaking things up with a unique trend inspired by China’s micro clubs, offering a different kind of exclusivity.
A new club in TREC Kuala Lumpur, known as 404 Club Not Found, is allegedly only open to “pretty girls and handsome men.” Think of it as the Abercrombie & Fitch of nightclubs.
According to Malaysia Food and Travel, this club follows the model of China’s No. 1 Micro Club, with over 30 locations in cities like Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Shenzhen.
A club spokesperson told Says that 404 Club Not Found KL is the brand’s second international location, with the first being in London, UK.
The Ka Yen Concept
The club’s concept is based on a Chinese trend called Ka Yen (卡颜), where “Ka” means ‘block’ or ‘control’ and “Yen” means ‘appearance.’
As mega clubs in China are declining, the trend is moving towards smaller, more exclusive venues. Entry to these clubs is invite-only and requires a reservation.
Because the main hall is only 1,000 sq ft and the entire space is 5,500 sq ft, the club is very selective about who can get in.
The spokesperson added that while the term Ka Yen originated in China, nightclubs in South Korea have been using a similar concept for over a decade.
Exclusive Marketing Strategy
The club’s exclusivity isn’t meant to offend anyone but is part of its marketing strategy in the shifting nightlife industry. There are no fixed operating days or hours, adding to the club’s exclusivity and creating buzz among visitors.
The club’s unique setup includes placing the DJ deck between visitors’ tables, so people focus more on their friends than the DJ.
Expansion Plans
404 Club Not Found has plans to expand to Singapore and Thailand soon.
How to Get In
Since the club is invite-only, walk-ins are generally not allowed, but you can still give it a try. The club’s agents are trained to vet potential visitors and handle bookings. All reservations and invitations are managed via WhatsApp.
