Selangor Red Giants (SRG) from Malaysia have claimed the world title at the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Mid-Season Cup 2024 (MSC), ending a seven-year drought and dethroning the four-time consecutive champions from the Philippines.

On July 14, SRG made history by defeating the Filipino team Falcons AP Bren Sport with a score of 4-2 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Malaysia’s Triumph Over the Filipino Dynasty

For the past four years, teams from the Philippines have dominated the MSC, even dethroning Indonesia’s M1 champions. But this year, SRG changed the narrative.

Despite losing the first match due to AP Bren’s sneaky ‘backdoor’ tactic, which led to 23 kills against 16, SRG bounced back in the second match with a crucial wipeout, leveling the score at 1-1.

SRG’s Roller Coaster Ride to Victory

SRG struggled in the third match, suffering a heavy defeat with only 6 kills to AP Bren’s 22. However, they quickly turned the tide, winning the fourth match (18-4) and the fifth match (12-11), reaching match point.

AP Bren, refusing to back down, dominated the sixth match with a swift 14-2 victory in under 12 minutes, forcing a decisive final game.

MVP Honors for SRG’s Jungler

In the final showdown, SRG clinched the title with a 21-10 win using a ‘three-crowd control setup’ featuring heroes Ruby, Alpha, and Minotaur. SRG’s jungler, Muhammad Haqqullah Ahmad Shahrul, aka Sekyss, earned the MVP title for MSC MLBB 2024.

The victory not only secured the prestigious trophy but also a substantial cash prize of USD1 million (RM4.67 million), the largest prize pool in MSC history.

“We Painted Riyadh RED & YELLOW” – SRG

SRG’s triumph extended their undefeated streak to 107 days, with 25 consecutive wins since March 29.

This year’s MSC was notably held at the Amazon Arena in Riyadh, marking the first time the event took place outside Southeast Asia.
