Fans Camp Overnight For New Pokémon Set

Pokémon fans and collectors in Malaysia turned Damansara Jaya into a hotspot after lining up along an entire shoplot block just to secure the newly released Pokémon TCG: Mega Evolution — Ascended Heroes expansion. Videos shared by PokeBK on Instagram Stories showed people camping out from the afternoon all the way until the next morning, with some even bringing folding chairs and having meals while waiting in line.
What Makes Ascended Heroes So Special
The Ascended Heroes expansion features a massive 295-card collection, including 217 cards in the main set and 78 secret rare cards. The highlight of the set is the “Mega Evolution” mechanic, which allows Pokémon to temporarily gain stronger abilities beyond their usual evolution stages. Even for non-players, the appeal goes beyond gameplay, as rare Pokémon cards can be worth hundreds or even thousands, making them highly sought after by collectors and resellers alike.
Pokémon Cards Are Big Money Business
The craze is not just about collecting, but also the potential value behind these cards. Late last year, a Malaysian collector reportedly sold his entire Pokémon collection for RM1.87 million, despite initial estimates placing it at over RM2 million. Globally, the most expensive Pokémon card ever sold was a 1998 Japanese Promo Pikachu Illustrator, which went for $16.492 million in February 2026. With that kind of value in the market, it is no surprise that fans are willing to queue overnight just for a chance to get their hands on the latest release.
