Teacher Transferred Following Headscarf Incident in Sabah
A teacher in Lahad Datu, Sabah, who allegedly cut a student’s headscarf for being “too short”, has been transferred to another school following widespread public criticism over the incident.
The matter gained attention after images of the damaged tudung were shared online by the Info Lahad Datu Facebook page, with claims that the student returned home crying after being humiliated in front of others during the first week of the 2026 school term.
Authorities Confirm Apology And Transfer
Sabah State Education Director Datuk Raisin Saidin confirmed that the action was taken through the Lahad Datu District Education Office (PPD).
He said the teacher had apologised to the student’s parents, replaced the headscarf that was cut, and was transferred to a different school, while the affected student remains at her original school.
According to him, the decision was made to prevent further emotional distress to the student and to ensure the matter was handled responsibly at the administrative level.
Call For Prudence And Respect In Discipline
Raisin urged educators to be more cautious and considerate when enforcing school rules, especially when disciplinary actions may affect a student’s dignity or emotional well-being.
He also reminded teachers to consider the circumstances of students and their families, including financial and personal factors, before taking action.
At the same time, he advised students to comply with school regulations, explaining that all rules implemented are based on guidelines set by the Ministry of Education Malaysia, and are intended to benefit students.
He expressed hope that such incidents would not be repeated in other schools.
