A surprising story hit the news in Thailand recently. A Thai woman got a big inheritance from her French boss after the boss was found dead in Koh Samui. The boss, Catherine Delacote, who was 59, left about RM12.8 million for her maid, Nutwalai Phupongta. Nutwalai had worked for her for 17 years.

The inheritance includes a villa with five pools, two pieces of land, money, a car, and other things. Catherine and her ex-husband, who’s also French, moved to Koh Samui 12 years ago. But later, Catherine lived alone after divorcing her husband.

Catherine was sick with cancer. She was found dead with a gunshot wound. Near her were a gun, a bullet shell, vodka, sunglasses, and cigarettes. The gun belonged to Catherine and was bought after a robbery at the villa.

Before she died, Catherine messaged people saying she was giving her stuff to Nutwalai. Nutwalai didn’t know about Catherine’s plans but got money from her for the funeral.

Now, there’s a legal issue with the inheritance. The villa was built by a company using Thai people to get around the law. Also, two Thai shareholders might need to agree to give the villa to Nutwalai.
