According to the National Center for Plant Development and Combating Desertification in Saudi Arabia, the rainy season has given the region an incredible green boost. Get this, rainfall reached a whopping 200 millimeters in some areas. That’s like a serious downpour, folks!
Remote sensing technology has some fascinating data – green areas reached 3,529.4 square kilometers in August, accounting for 2.3% of the entire region. Then, with relentless rain, the green figure skyrocketed to 26,256 square kilometers by the end of the year. Seriously impressive!
Let’s delve into some mind-blowing stats – by December, 17.1% of the region was already adorned with various plants. No kidding, the focus was on mountainous and highland areas along the Red Sea coast, especially in Mecca, Taif, Al-Laith, Al-Jammoum, Al-Kamil, and Khalis. The land’s height ranged from 500 to 2,600 meters, folks!
To make it even more exciting, the Saudi government is examining the status of these green areas using remote sensing technology and artificial intelligence (A.I). Like a science fiction story, right?
The study is no joke, involving monitoring changes in reforestation projects, tracking land cover changes, calculating rainfall amounts, checking plant density, and evaluating the health of these green giants. All this to achieve the goals of reforestation projects and the ‘Saudi Green Initiative’.
And guess what, they’ve announced a discovery of gold! A stretch of land about 100 kilometers south of the Mansourah Massarah mine in the Al Khurmah administrative region of Makkah. This is no small feat, indicating untapped mineral potential within the country. Gold again! Like hitting the jackpot!
