A tiny white robot named Erbai has captured hearts and sparked laughter online with its hilarious mission to lead its larger robot companions “home.”

The 53-second video, which feels straight out of a sci-fi movie, was recorded in August and released on Douyin on 9 November. In the clip, Erbai, created by Chinese start-up Hangzhou Erbai Intelligent Technology, strolls through a dimly lit hall, urging its robot peers to clock out.

Erbai’s Work-Life Balance Revolution

Rolling up to a cluster of larger robots parked by a wall, Erbai cheekily asks, “Are you working overtime?”

One of the bigger robots replies, “We never get off work,” sounding eerily relatable. But Erbai isn’t one to take excuses. It persistently suggests, “Will you go home?” When the larger robot claims, “I don’t have a home,” Erbai delivers the winning line: “Then, go home with me.”

What happens next is pure comedy. Like a robotic leader of the pack, Erbai leads the bigger bots out of the hall, one by one, in a display that’s both amusing and slightly unsettling.

Online Reactions: Laughter and a Touch of AI Anxiety

The video has amassed millions of views, with netizens reacting to the humorous yet eerie scenario.

  • “Human: Robots will rule the earth! Robot: Nah, we’re going home,” quipped one user.
  • Another joked about the hierarchy: “The small one commands, and the big ones light the way.”
  • Some viewers found the scene unsettling, with comments like, “Hearing ‘Go home’ in a child’s voice at night? Creepy!”

Others, however, couldn’t help but express mild concern over AI evolution, with remarks like, “Logic, consciousness, and thinking ability develop bit by bit. Judgment Day is one step closer.”

Developer Explains the Experiment

For those worried about a robot uprising, rest easy—this isn’t the start of Skynet. Developer Mao Feifei explained that this was an experiment to test programmed responses. Erbai’s task was simply to identify the exit as “home” and lead the others using AI-generated conversations.

So, while robots won’t be ruling the world anytime soon, Erbai’s antics show they can still entertain us with their charm and quirky “work-life balance.”
