73-Year-Old Monk Wins RM1 Million BSN SSP Jackpot, Plans To Continue Helping Others
Monk Becomes BSN SSP’s Latest Millionaire
A 73-year-old monk has become the latest millionaire after winning RM1 million in Bank Simpanan Nasional’s (BSN) 124th Sijil Simpanan Premium (SSP) Millionaire Draw. According to Berita Harian, Chan Chai Siang, who was born in Butterworth and now resides in Air Itam, Penang, received the winning cheque at BSN’s Penang Main Branch. Remarkably, he had only started saving through the BSN SSP scheme in January last year before striking the life-changing prize just over a year later.
Savings Came From Public Donations
Chan revealed that the money he deposited into his BSN SSP account largely came from donations, red packets and contributions received from members of the public over the years. He also shared that even before winning the jackpot, he regularly used part of those donations to help people facing financial hardship. According to Chan, supporting those in need has always been an important part of his life, and he hopes to continue doing so despite becoming a millionaire.
No Luxury Plans Despite The Windfall
Having served as a monk since 1985, Chan previously worked as a factory worker in both Singapore and Penang before dedicating his life to religion. When asked about his plans for the RM1 million prize, he said he has no intention of making extravagant purchases. Instead, he intends to keep the money in the bank for future security while continuing his charitable efforts. Chan’s win forms part of BSN’s “BSN SSP Jom Jadi Jutawan” campaign, which offers monthly RM1 million prizes from January to November, with December featuring a grand prize of RM1 million and a Porsche Macan X.
