2 Men Accused of Peeping on Woman in JB Fitting Room, One Held a Phone
Woman Claims Men Peeped on Her While Changing in Fitting Room
A woman in Johor Bahru has accused two men of violating her privacy while she was changing in a clothing store fitting room. The incident happened on Sunday, June 15, at a shop in Mount Austin, and has since gone viral after the victim shared the experience on Facebook.
“They Pulled the Curtain While I Was Changing,” Says Victim
The woman, Jia Ying Foo, shared that she had closed the curtain properly before undressing. However, she was shocked when the two men outside allegedly pulled open her curtain and looked in.
“I was about to change when they suddenly pulled the curtain open. CCTV caught the scene. I was shocked!”
Jia Ying said one of the men then quickly shut the curtain again and laughed before walking away.
CCTV Shows the Men Lingering Near the Fitting Room
CCTV footage obtained from the shop showed the two men casually loitering and chatting near the fitting rooms. Eventually, they moved directly in front of the fitting room where Jia Ying was changing and pulled the curtain open.
The victim believes the act was intentional and not accidental, especially since the men walked away laughing.
Store Confirms Men Were Not Shopping Seriously
In an Instagram Story, the store confirmed that the two men were accompanied by two women, but none of them tried on any clothes. Store staff also said the men ignored another fitting room where a woman was accompanied by her boyfriend, instead choosing to approach the one where Jia Ying was alone.
Due to fear, Jia Ying reportedly remained inside the fitting room until the men had left the store.
Police Report Lodged, Investigation Underway
Jia Ying has since lodged a police report, and thanked the store management for providing the surveillance footage to aid the investigation.
Johor Bahru South District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, confirmed that a report had been received from the 26-year-old victim. One of the suspects was seen holding a mobile phone during the incident.
The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the modesty of a person, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison, a fine, or both upon conviction.
