Mark Wahlberg Spotted In Penang Filming New Netflix Thriller
Mark Wahlberg Arrives In Penang
Hollywood actor Mark Wahlberg is currently in Penang filming scenes for The Big Fix, an upcoming Netflix action thriller. According to Penang Island City Council Mayor Datuk A. Rajendran, filming began after Wahlberg arrived on 10 July and is expected to continue for around two weeks before production returns to Sydney, Australia. Local production support is being handled by Biscuit Films, a Malaysian company that has worked on several international productions.
Filming Across Six Locations
The film follows an Interpol officer investigating a global football match-fixing syndicate with links to FIFA. Besides Wahlberg, the cast includes Riz Ahmed, Chin Han, Vipin Sharma and Malaysian actress Nuha Jes Izman. Filming is taking place at several locations across Penang, including Lebuh Melayu and nearby streets in George Town, Lorong Kulit, City Stadium, Batu Kawan Stadium and Macallum Field. Temporary road closures have also been implemented at several filming sites throughout the production period.
Kelisa Photo Goes Viral
While in Malaysia, Wahlberg also shared an Instagram post alongside the parish priest of the Church of Divine Mercy, wishing his followers a happy Sunday from Penang. However, what really caught the internet’s attention was a photo of the Hollywood star posing next to a Perodua Kelisa, with many Malaysians joking that the humble hatchback had unexpectedly stolen the spotlight. The viral moment adds to a growing list of Hollywood appearances in Malaysia, following Henry Golding’s visit earlier this year.
