AirBorneo Launches First International Flight From Kuching To Singapore
AirBorneo Reaches Another Milestone
AirBorneo officially launched its first international flight from Kuching to Singapore on Wednesday, marking another major milestone in Sarawak’s aviation journey. Speaking during the Sarawak Day 2026 Celebration at Dataran Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg described the inaugural flight as a special gift for the people of Sarawak. He said the new route was more than just an international service, as it marked the beginning of a new chapter in strengthening Sarawak’s regional air connectivity.
Strengthening Trade, Tourism And Investment
According to Abang Johari, AirBorneo reflects the Sarawak government’s commitment to improving connectivity, boosting trade, expanding tourism and attracting more investment into the state. He said the airline would also create more opportunities for Sarawakians and the business community to connect with wider markets. Looking ahead, he even suggested that AirBorneo could one day serve Sarawak’s famous dabai from Song and Kanowit on international routes such as Kuching-Singapore to introduce the local delicacy to travellers from around the world.
Part Of Sarawak’s Bigger Vision
Abang Johari added that AirBorneo would complement Sarawak’s wider transport ecosystem, which includes ports, road networks, airports and the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system. He said these developments would help create a more efficient, sustainable and integrated mobility network while supporting Sarawak’s ambition of becoming a stronger regional economic hub. The Premier also pointed out that the Singapore service was launched just two days after AirBorneo operated its inaugural Kuching-Kuala Lumpur flight on 20 July, marking another important step in the airline’s expansion.
