If you’re immersed in social media and celebrity buzz, you’ve probably come across #BlockOut2024.

But for those unfamiliar, #BlockOut2024 is an international movement urging people to unfollow and block Western celebrities and influencers who haven’t spoken up for Palestine in the Israel-Palestine conflict.

A local Instagram page, blockout2024my, has emerged to spotlight Malaysian celebrities and influencers who’ve stayed silent on Israel’s actions against Palestine.

In one post, blockout2024my echoes the international page’s stance, stating, “The Israeli occupation is committing GENOCIDE against Palestine. ‘Celebrities’ and ‘influencers’ have shamefully stayed silent or spread lies.”

“These celebrities and influencers profit millions from us. If consumers (us) stop seeing their content, they lose money. That’s why we’re blocking. We don’t need them; they need us.”

The page categorizes local figures in green for supporting Palestine and red for being “complicit” by staying silent.

Green-listed stars include Faizal Tahir, Yuna, and Daiyan Trisha, while red-listed ones include Sean Lee, Amelia Henderson, and Luqman Podolski.

“Imagine supporting celebrities who can’t speak out against genocide… Stop idolizing them.”

“Remember, this isn’t just an online trend; it’s real life. It’s for the children slaughtered by the Israeli occupation and the grieving parents,” adds blockout2024my.
