Aaron Chia & Soh Wooi Yik Crowned Kings of Asia After Breaking 17-Year Drought

Aaron Chia & Soh Wooi Yik Make History with First Asian Championships Win Since 2007

Malaysia’s top badminton duo, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, have made history by winning their first-ever Badminton Asia Championships title — marking Malaysia’s first win in men’s doubles since 2007.

The high-stakes match, which took place in Ningbo, China, saw them defeat local favourites Chen Bo Yang and Liu Yi in a 47-minute showdown that ended 21-19, 21-17.

Not Just Another Win — It’s Legacy-Building

This wasn’t just another tournament victory. It’s a milestone.

After previously winning the World Championships in Tokyo 2022, this win solidifies their legacy as one of Malaysia’s most decorated badminton duos.

They’ve consistently impressed on the global stage with podium finishes in Denmark, Korea, and now Asia.

RM163,700 in Prize Money — But the Pride is Priceless

The win earned the duo a USD37,000 cash prize (RM163,700) — but for fans and the country, the true reward lies in the pride of seeing Malaysia rise to the top again.

Aaron, born in Melaka, and Soh, from Kuala Lumpur, have been playing together since their early teens — a partnership now reaping the rewards of resilience, chemistry, and strategy.

Asia’s Best Face Off in a Star-Studded Final

While Chia-Soh took centre stage, the tournament also saw standout performances from:

  • Kunlavut Vitidsarn (Thailand) – Men’s Singles Champion
  • Chen Yu Fei (China) – Women’s Singles Champion
  • Hong Kong’s Mixed Doubles Team – Strong win against regional powerhouses

Still, the loudest cheers and proudest moments were reserved for Malaysia.
