SKINNY HUSKY RESCUED FROM ROADSIDE IN SRI HARTAMAS NOW IN VETERINARY CARE
Husky Found Starving in Sri Hartamas Now Safe and On the Road to Recovery
A severely malnourished female husky, found abandoned on the roadside in Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur, has sparked compassion online after being rescued by a group of joggers and a concerned pet owner.
The incident happened on Sunday, 27 July, when three joggers spotted the husky struggling to walk. They quickly moved her to a shaded area and gave her food and water from a nearby café while trying to seek help.
Coincidentally, a woman named May, 33, was walking her own dog in the area when she was approached by the joggers, who had already been with the husky for two hours. With animal rescue groups unresponsive due to overcapacity, May took the initiative and brought the husky to a vet.
“She was tested, shaved, cleaned gently, and stayed overnight. She was very gentle throughout the procedures,” May recalled.
Husky Named “Darling” Begins Intensive Treatment
Unfortunately, Darling’s condition worsened the next day, prompting the vet to refer her to a veterinary hospital for more intensive care. Despite initial fears, she tested negative for several major illnesses, including parvovirus, diabetes, and pancreatitis.
Her medical costs have so far exceeded RM3,500, including RM1,600 in diagnostic tests and a RM1,900 hospital deposit — excluding future physiotherapy expenses. Generous donations from friends and strangers have helped lighten the financial load.
Fostering Plans Underway, but Recovery Comes First
May has nicknamed the husky “Darling” and plans to send her to a professional dog trainer for fostering once she’s fit to leave the hospital. The trainer has a track record of working with rescued animals and offers services at a reasonable fee.
Although several people have shown interest in adopting her, May insists the priority now is Darling’s full recovery.
Reminder on the Responsibility of Pet Ownership
Darling’s story is a painful reminder of what happens when pets are treated as disposable. “This dog has clearly suffered from starvation and emotional trauma. Pets aren’t toys — they’re lives that need love and commitment,” May said.
Those interested in contributing to Darling’s treatment or potentially offering her a forever home can reach out to May via her Facebook here.
