China’s first-ever corgi police dog, Fu Zai, has captured the hearts of many, not just for his exceptional service but also for his adorable workplace mischief.

Despite losing his year-end bonus for falling asleep on duty and urinating in his food bowl, Fu Zai was still honoured for his contributions as an explosives-detection dog and was gifted a special Lunar New Year package, much to the delight of his fans.

From Rookie to Star Officer

Fu Zai, meaning “Lucky Boy,” joined the Weifang Public Security Bureau in Shandong province in January 2024 at just four months old. While his small stature made him an unusual choice for police work, his sharp nose and keen instincts quickly set him apart.

By October 2024, he graduated as a fully qualified police dog, impressing his trainers with his ability to detect explosives.

Praise & Punishment – Fu Zai’s Year-End Review

During an end-of-year performance review on 19 January, officers celebrated Fu Zai’s achievements, recognizing his role in security operations and raising awareness about police dogs in Weifang.

To honour his efforts, Fu Zai was awarded:

✔️ A red flower (a symbol of recognition)

✔️ Toys and gourmet pet treats

However, the celebration took a humorous twist when officers revealed his recent “misdemeanours”:

Falling asleep on duty

Urinating in his food bowl

As a result, his treats and toys were briefly confiscated, leaving only the red flower.

“Hope you make more persistent efforts in the future,” an officer jokingly said in the video, which has since received over 10,000 likes and hundreds of comments. His journey was documented on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, through a dedicated account, “Corgi Police Dog Fu Zai and Its Comrades,” which has gained over 384,000 followers.

Fans quickly came to Fu Zai’s defence, flooding the comment section with support:

💬 “Poor Fu Zai worked so hard all year, only to lose his bonus. I can relate!”
