Era FM DJs Seek Forgiveness at Batu Caves Following Thaipusam Controversy

The controversy surrounding Era FM DJs Nabil Ahmad, Azad Jazmin, and Radin Amir Affendy continues to escalate as they visited Batu Caves in an attempt to seek forgiveness following massive backlash over a viral video. The three DJs, who are currently under police investigation for allegedly mocking the sacred Thaipusam kavadi ritual, met with Malaysia Council of Hindu Temples and Hindu Associations President Sivakumar Nadarajah.
Their visit followed Era FM’s public apology on social media after netizens condemned their actions. However, their presence at Batu Caves did little to appease the outrage, as Sivakumar made it clear that their apology was not enough.
In a video posted on Sivakumar’s Instagram and TikTok, which has now gone viral with over 3.5 million views, Nabil was heard attempting to justify the incident by calling it an “internal” matter. However, Sivakumar quickly dismissed this, stating that once the video was uploaded on Era FM’s official social media accounts, it became a public issue.
Sivakumar did not hold back in his response, making it clear that the DJs must face the consequences of their actions. “After you’ve had your fun, now you want to apologise? It’s too late for that,” he said, rejecting the idea that a mere apology was enough. He added that, while they might be personally forgiven, disciplinary action must still be taken to set an example.
Meanwhile, authorities have confirmed that the three DJs are being investigated under Section 298 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. This comes after six police reports were lodged against them, with one complainant accusing them of exploiting racial sensitivities.
In response to the backlash, Era FM has suspended all three DJs from on-air duties indefinitely while an internal review is conducted. Astro Audio, in an official statement, reaffirmed that they are taking the matter seriously, stating, “After careful consideration, we have decided to take the three individuals off-air until further notice while we review the situation internally.”
With an ongoing police investigation and increasing public scrutiny, the question remains—will this controversy die down, or is this just the beginning of their career downfall?
