A Chinese school in Selangor recently made headlines after it got sponsorship from a beer company. While the Ministry of Education is looking into it and PAS has criticized the sponsorship, some Malay parents are shrugging off the fuss.

According to China Press, several Malay parents with kids in Chinese schools are not bothered by the beer sponsorship. One parent argued, “They’re just sponsoring an event; they’re not asking you to drink the beer.”

A mother with a child at a Chinese school in Selangor said she’s not worried about the beer logo appearing during school events. “If the money from beer companies helps improve school facilities, I’m fine with it.”

Another parent, Zarina, who sent her daughter to a Chinese school in Ipoh, believes in the quality of education above all else. “I’m not regretting it at all. Once she masters a third language and gets used to the culture, she’ll have a great future.”

Zarina also doesn’t mind the beer sponsorship as long as it doesn’t involve children or Muslims. “As long as the charity event doesn’t include kids and Muslims, I don’t see any issue.”

Another parent echoed this sentiment, stating she’s never seen Chinese schools promoting beer products. “The funds from the charity event are for a good cause. They’re not asking anyone to drink beer.”

What do you think about this? Should the sponsorship be a big deal?
