Malaysia Airlines pilots have earned well-deserved praise for their remarkable handling of a difficult landing at London’s Heathrow Airport (LHR) during a storm this past weekend.

A video shared on the ‘True Malaysia Airlines Fans’ Facebook page, originally broadcasted on Big Jet TV’s YouTube livestream, captured the smooth touchdown of the Malaysia Airlines Airbus A350-900, despite facing fierce crosswinds from Storm Darragh.

The caption accompanying the video read, “Interesting video… Looks like row 40 in Economy was landing first. Many go-arounds today at LHR because of Storm Darragh.”

The commentators were visibly impressed by the skilled manoeuvre, with one remarking, “Blimey! Huge swing there. That’s a massive crabbing to the landing. Awesome.”

In the footage, the plane can be seen performing a “crabbing” landing – a technique where the aircraft approaches the runway at an angle to counter strong crosswinds, causing the aircraft’s rear to appear slightly out of alignment with the runway.

Online viewers quickly praised the pilots for their ability to maintain control of the aircraft and execute such a precise landing in the challenging weather conditions brought on by the storm.
