A few months back, Malaysians rallied on social media to urge the government to reject the bid to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games. The government listened and agreed.

Now, will Malaysians back the government’s latest decision to turn down the chance to host next year’s Formula E-Prix grand finale?

Wan Agyl Wan Hassan, former Head of Policy and Planning Division at the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) Operations Group, shared his thoughts on LinkedIn, expressing his disappointment.

He wrote, “I’m deeply saddened to share that we have decided to withdraw from hosting the Formula E race. As a proponent of sustainable transportation and innovative urban mobility solutions, this decision is a significant step back for our country.”

“Formula E is more than just a race; it’s a platform to advance electric vehicle technology, promote sustainable practices, and showcase our commitment to a greener future. Our participation would have strengthened our position in the global movement towards eco-friendly urban transportation.”

Despite the disappointing news, Wan Agyl encourages Malaysia to keep pushing forward.

“While this news is disappointing, it also underscores the need for continued advocacy and investment in sustainable transport initiatives. Let’s keep the momentum going and strive for a greener, more sustainable future for all,” he added.
