People are demanding immediate action against an account for its offensive posts.
The Bola Tribe’s Twitter page made people very angry with its recent posts. This account usually talks about football, praising Johor Darul Ta’zim Football Club (JDT FC) and criticizing Selangor Football Club (Selangor FC). However, on June 28, 2024, it went too far. It shared two tweets that mocked Selangor FC, one defacing an image of Buddha and another showing a temple as Selangor FC’s headquarters.
These posts are believed to be part of the intense rivalry between Selangor and Johor in football.
The phrase “The Real Tokong” was originally used by Tunku Mahkota Ismail (TMJ), the Crown Prince of Johor, in his Instagram story. He was sharing his thoughts about the Malaysian Football League’s (MFL) decision to reduce penalties for Selangor FC. Earlier, on June 26, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah of Selangor expressed his unhappiness with the punishment Selangor FC received for withdrawing from the Charity Shield football match.
Many people find the posts offensive to the Buddhist and Taoist communities in Malaysia, saying they go against the government’s strict 3R (race, religion, royalty) guidelines. They believe it’s completely absurd to insult people’s beliefs in this way.
People are calling for the authorities to take immediate action against the account for this blatant disrespect.
