The Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC) is set to be demolished to pave the way for the mega-development of Shah Alam Sentral (SA Sentral) in Section 14, according to the New Straits Times.

New World-Class Exhibition Center

Datuk Mahmud Abbas, the CEO of the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS), announced that a world-class exhibition center will replace SACC.

Transforming Section 14 into a CBD

PKNS plans to develop SA Sentral into a central business district (CBD) on a 64.7-hectare site as part of its transformative initiatives. The RM2 billion rejuvenation project will include several plots in Section 14, including SACC Mall.

Mahmud explained that SA Sentral will feature residential areas, commercial spaces, and cultural heritage elements, similar to Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle. “We aim to revitalize Section 14 of Shah Alam and turn it into a thriving CBD. A successful CBD needs businesses,” he told Business Times.

The area will include residential units, commercial offices, parks, recreational facilities, a library, exhibition areas, and an LRT station.

Shifting Focus to Commercial Development

PKNS is transitioning from its previous image as a low-cost housing developer to a more commercially-driven entity, due to reduced state funding and land premiums. “We spend RM63 million annually on CSR. To cover these costs, we need to generate significant revenue from property sales,” Mahmud said.

PKNS is no longer focusing on building affordable housing, as other developers are meeting that demand.

Future Ambitions

Looking ahead, PKNS aims to double its current revenue to RM8 billion by 2030.
