A woman sparked chaos on a Batik Air flight from Hanoi to Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, 5 January, after stubbornly refusing to wear her seatbelt during takeoff preparations. The incident, captured on video and now viral on TikTok, shows the passenger shouting, “I don’t care! I don’t have to listen to you!” at the cabin crew.

In the video, a flight attendant is seen firmly reprimanding her, saying, “Stop yelling! This is a safety procedure for your own good.” However, the woman remained defiant, leading to her and her companion being escorted off the plane.

As the woman exited the aircraft, other passengers applauded, showing support for the cabin crew. TikTok user @fegiegie, who uploaded the viral clip, wrote, “This is the first time I’ve seen someone refuse to wear a seatbelt during takeoff—and even scold the crew for enforcing it!”

@fegiegie also told SAYS that the delay almost caused her to miss her connecting flight to Indonesia. Fortunately, Batik Air ensured that all affected passengers reached their destinations.

The incident video has since garnered over 50 million views, with netizens praising the professionalism of the cabin crew. “The stewardess was upset but stayed calm and composed. Amazing!” commented one user, while others criticized the passenger’s reckless behavior.

Batik Air’s corporate communications officer, Danang Mandala Prihantoro, confirmed the incident in a statement to Kompas:

“Despite being given clear and precise instructions, the passenger refused to comply. As a result, the passenger and her companion were asked to disembark before the flight commenced.”

This incident serves as a strong reminder of the importance of adhering to flight safety procedures.
