Yogyakarta, Indonesia: A stir has erupted as some residents of Panggang District, Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta have already marked the beginning of Shawwal and performed the optional Eid Al-Fitr prayer today.

According to a report by Detik News, worshippers at the Aolia Mosque will be observing the Eid Al-Fitr prayer today (Friday).

The Imam of Aolia Mosque, Ibnu Hajar, also known as Mbah Benu, stated that this early celebration of Eid this year is due to spiritual conviction and personal beliefs.

“In reality, this is based on personal conviction. In Indonesia, we have the flexibility to celebrate Eid or commence fasting earlier. There’s no issue with that. What matters is maintaining unity and refraining from casting blame on others,” he remarked.

Previously, a video had circulated depicting worshippers at the Aolia Mosque beginning their fast on Thursday, March 7, 2024.
