A staff member at a religious school in Air Papan, Mersing, has been sentenced to 150 years in prison and 30 strokes of the cane after pleading guilty to multiple charges involving a 14-year-old male student.

Sentencing and Legal Proceedings

The accused, Mohd Faizal Man, 45, admitted to committing the offenses between mid-May 2024 and October 31, 2024. The Sessions Court, presided by Judge Hayda Faridzal Abu Hasan, imposed the sentence, which includes mandatory counseling during incarceration and one year of police supervision upon release.

According to case records, the student’s family filed a police report on January 29 after he refused to return to the institution. He later informed authorities that he had experienced distress since being placed in the same room as the accused in April 2024. He further alleged that he had been subjected to repeated misconduct while sleeping. Following the report, authorities took action and detained the accused on January 30.

Concerns Over Student Safety in Institutions

The court imposed a penalty of 10 years of imprisonment and two strokes of the cane per charge, with sentences running consecutively. The case has drawn attention to concerns regarding the well-being of students in educational settings and the importance of implementing stricter safeguards.

This case follows previous incidents involving concerns in educational institutions, including last year’s Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) case, which involved allegations related to student welfare and oversight issues.

Authorities continue to emphasize the need for stricter regulations and preventive measures to ensure the safety of students and to address similar concerns in the future.
