The hunt for Vijayaletchumi, the woman swallowed by a sinkhole, isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil reassured the public today that the search efforts will persist, even on Merdeka Day (August 31).

“The authorities are committed to finding the missing victim, and the search won’t stop until she’s located,” Fahmi stated.

During his visit to the Indah Water Disposal Plant (IWK) in Pantai Dalam, Fahmi observed the ongoing efforts and expressed his belief that 48-year-old Vijayaletchumi will be found.

He explained that the water from the Masjid India sinkhole flows directly to the sewage pool at IWK Pantai Dalam, which is essentially the final stop for anything caught in the flow.

“There’s a screen here that separates waste from liquids, so nothing can get past this sewage pool,” Fahmi explained, hinting that the search might soon yield results.

The distance between the Masjid India sinkhole and the IWK sewage pool in Pantai Dalam is about 7 kilometers.

Unfortunately, as of this morning (August 27), there have been no new developments on Vijayaletchumi’s whereabouts. In response, DBKL has deployed Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) in the hopes of locating her.

Despite the lack of progress, Vijayaletchumi’s family remains hopeful, though they’ve accepted the grim reality. They are clinging to the hope of finding her, even if just for a final farewell.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the authorities for their relentless efforts in searching for the victim day and night. Let’s hope this heartbreaking ordeal concludes soon.
