A Singapore-based waste management company, Jetters Incz, has offered to help in the search for the woman who tragically fell into a sinkhole in Masjid India – and they’re doing it for free!

Today (August 28) marks the sixth day of the search and rescue (SAR) operation for Vijaya Lakshmi, an Indian national who disappeared into the sinkhole caused by a sudden land subsidence near Malayan Mansion, Jalan Masjid India, Kuala Lumpur on the morning of August 23.

Dang Wangi District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman, stated that the SAR efforts will continue until the victim is found.

“So far, we haven’t set an end date for the search, but the meeting this afternoon concluded that we will keep searching until she is found,” he was quoted saying by Awani yesterday.

Rescue teams have now resorted to using a ‘flushing’ technique, where the flow of water in the sewage system is blocked and then released suddenly to create a powerful surge. This method is being coordinated by the Indah Water Konsortium (IWK).

Singaporean Waste Management Firm Offers Free Help

In the latest development, Jetters Incz Pte Ltd from Singapore has stepped up, offering their expertise in the ongoing SAR mission at no cost.

According to a Malaymail report, Jetters Incz issued a statement saying they were ready to provide their services after learning that the ‘flushing’ method was being used to locate the victim.

“As specialists in this field, we are eager to volunteer our support to the ongoing investigation and search efforts. Our team is equipped with advanced technology and possesses the necessary skills to navigate complex drainage systems, which we believe could be crucial in this situation,” the statement read.

Victim Suddenly Swallowed by Sinkhole

The incident occurred around 8 AM last Friday when the 48-year-old tourist was walking in the area with her family. Without warning, the ground beneath her gave way, and she was swallowed by the sinkhole.

CCTV footage of the incident went viral on social media, showing another man who was sitting on a stone bench near the sinkhole almost falling in as well but managing to save himself just in time.

So far, only the victim’s slippers have been found during the ongoing search.

IWK Uses ‘Jettor’ to Break Debris in Search for Victim

Today, Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) also deployed a ‘jettor’ to break through debris in their effort to find the missing woman.

The debris-breaking operation started from the sinkhole location and extended 69 meters downstream into the sewage system.

The Media Unit of the Corporate Planning Department of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) reported that the SAR operation is still ongoing with the involvement of multiple agencies, as reported by Berita Harian.

Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Dr. Maimunah Mohd Sharif had previously stated that preliminary studies by the Department of Minerals and Geosciences Malaysia (JMG) confirmed that the soil at the incident site is safe and suitable for development activities.
