Subra sees Selangor’s sparring as ordinary, not as competitive as the Top 4 like JDT, TFC, and Kedah.

Selangor FC secured the Selangor Asia Challenge (SAC) 2024 title after defeating the Laos League champions, Young Elephants FC, 4-0 in action at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium (MBPJ), Selangor, on Sunday.
Two consecutive victories by Nidzam Jamil’s boys allowed them to lead with 14 points overall after the win against Young Elephants FC helped them add another seven points.
Previously, they had already gathered seven points from a big 4-0 win against Brunei representatives, DPMM FC, in the first match last Friday.
Selangor has scored eight goals and maintained a clean sheet in this tournament as preparation to face Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) for the Charity Shield action on May 10.
However, Selangor’s victory raised questions for the country’s football legend, S. Subramaniam, who considers the invited teams of SAC 2024 to be of significantly lower quality, making it difficult to identify weaknesses in the Red Giants.
He said Nidzam Jamil’s team could not test their true strength because they faced weaker teams.
“We couldn’t see Selangor’s weaknesses because we faced teams of lower standards than them.
“Throughout the preseason, they scored many goals but there was no team that really challenged them.
“They didn’t face Top 4 teams like Kedah because they will meet in the second Super League match. Just like JDT (for a friendly match) because they will play for the Charity Shield.
“But here, their preparation will be hindered because there are no equivalent teams to test them,” he explained to Astro Arena.
Subramaniam also believes that there are three teams with stronger capabilities compared to Selangor at the moment.
“I feel that preseason matches should face teams that can challenge us. Then only we can see the players’ conditions, strategies to be used, and others.
“We only see one strategy from Selangor, which is attacking and proactive, but when facing stronger teams like JDT, Kedah, and Terengganu, can they demonstrate the same action?” he expressed.
Subramaniam’s statements also received responses from fans who said the organizers should invite stronger teams.
“Invite stronger teams next year, champions of the Vietnamese, Thai, or Australian leagues which are closer to Malaysia,” said Awie Aziman.
“Don’t say it’s amazing if you have to win against clubs from Laos, Brunei, and Singapore,” expressed Tiger HM.
“It’s a waste of preseason if in the end, it’s JDT who becomes the champions of the Malaysian League,” clarified Nauli Daulay.
