The Terengganu government will look into a party held on 20 May, which is the unofficial Valentine’s Day in China, where women in beachwear were seen dancing on stage at a well-known resort in Basut.

Razali Idris, the chairman of the state’s tourism, culture, environment, and climate change committee, said his department would check if the organisers broke local rules or didn’t get the necessary permits, as reported by FMT.

“We’ll investigate this matter, and if the organisers are found to have broken any rules or laws, we will take action,” he stated.

Razali mentioned that he would meet with the resort owner, along with the Terengganu religious department and the Kuala Terengganu mayor.

“If there’s evidence that the event broke the law or involved Muslims, please report it to the religious department for further investigation,” he added.

Meanwhile, the state police have not received any reports about the party.

“It will depend on the meeting scheduled tomorrow (23 May) between the exco (Razali) and the resort owners,” Kuala Terengganu police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor told Bernama on 22 May.

He noted that the resort is a private area designated for tourism, with no local villagers nearby.

Earlier this week, photos and videos of the event, called the Aloha Party, went viral.

Some netizens questioned how the music party, featuring two local DJs and a dance group, got approved.

Videos show women in bikinis dancing on stage with a cheering crowd moving to the music.

“Enjoy your 2024 first 520 with us,” read a poster for the party.

The ‘520’ term relates to China’s unofficial Valentine’s Day, as the numbers sound like ‘I love you’ in Mandarin.

The resort had been promoting the party for the past week, and its Instagram profile often features local influencers enjoying the resort’s facilities and beach.
