The Paris 2024 Olympics is a major event this year, drawing attention from all corners of the globe since it only happens once every four years.
Every athlete competing has the same dream—to win that gold medal and claim the top spot in their event.
But for Andrea Wong, it wasn’t the gold medal she was after. She had her sights set on something even more precious—an unforgettable experience to check off her bucket list.
Spending RM11,500 Just to Volunteer at the Paris 2024 Olympics
In a Facebook post, Andrea Wong shared her experience of being a volunteer at the prestigious Paris 2024 Olympics.
She mentioned that volunteering at the Olympics had been a dream of hers for a long time, and the memories she made in July and August 2024 would stay with her forever.
Andrea’s fourth trip to Paris was anything but ordinary, filled with unique experiences.
She admitted that being an Olympic volunteer could get a little boring, as her main job was helping spectators find their seats and watch the ongoing games.
“Even though the work wasn’t too hard, I just wanted to gain the experience and check it off my bucket list,” Andrea explained.
On her last day, Andrea got emotional, finding it hard to believe that she was one of the 45,000 volunteers selected out of 300,000 applicants from all over the world.
The RM11,500 Cost—All Covered by Her
You might be wondering how she managed the expenses for food, transport, accommodation, and everything else, right?
Andrea explained that she didn’t spend much on transportation since she only needed to walk to the event venues, which took about 30 minutes.
Here’s a breakdown of her other expenses:
- Flight tickets: RM3,800
- Accommodation: RM6,500
- Food and drinks: RM1,200
Andrea also shared the three requirements needed to apply as a volunteer at the Paris 2024 Olympics:
- Be at least 18 years old by January 1, 2024.
- Be able to communicate in English or French.
- Be available for at least 10 days between the opening of the Athlete Village and two days after the Paralympic Games Closing Ceremony.
