A TikTok influencer is raising eyebrows over the lenient RM100 fine for a cyberbullying case that led to a tragic death.
Shocking RM100 Fine for Cyberbullying
Rajeswary Appahu, also known as Esha, tragically ended her life after being cyberbullied. On July 16, two people were charged in court, including P Shalini, who pleaded guilty to making insulting remarks meant to incite anger and disturb peace. Shalini, a welfare home owner, was fined RM100 under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, which sparked public outrage.
TikTok Influencer Speaks Out
TikTok influencer Arwind Kumar (@aforarwind) questioned the justice system’s message when a cyberbully who contributed to someone’s death gets only a RM100 fine. Arwind argued that while the law prioritizes logic and practicality, a mere RM100 fine seems neither logical nor practical.
He compared the punishment to other offences with higher fines:
- Littering (up to RM100,000 or jail)
- Not wearing a seatbelt (RM300)
- Running a red light (up to RM2,000)
Shalini’s Father Celebrates Outside Court
Arwind didn’t just criticize the law; he was appalled by Shalini’s behavior outside the court. Shalini left the courthouse smiling and seemingly unrepentant, with her father celebrating her “victory.” He even showed off her LV handbag to photographers, which Arwind saw as a blatant disregard for the pain caused by her actions.
Arwind called out Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in his video, urging action on this issue.
Public Outrage Over Shalini’s Behavior
Many TikTok users echoed Arwind’s sentiments, expressing their disappointment and anger in the comments. Some noted that Shalini’s attitude wouldn’t change because of her father’s enabling behavior. Others shared their own experiences with hefty fines for minor infractions, questioning the fairness of the justice system.
One TikTok user said, “I got fined RM600 for riding a motorbike without a side mirror and with an open exhaust.”
Arwind’s Final Thoughts
Arwind emphasized that Shalini’s lack of remorse and her father’s celebration show a toxic level of arrogance. He urged for better awareness and stricter consequences for cyberbullying, hoping for a change in how such cases are handled.
