“Do You Pay Extra For Iced Coffee?” – E-Hailing Driver Demands 20% Surcharge for AC Use

An e-hailing passenger requested the air conditioner be turned on, but the driver refused unless he was paid extra.
This e-hailing driver stirred up quite a bit of controversy with a post in the InDrive Malaysia Facebook group.
While it’s unclear if he drives for InDrive, Grab, or both, the man shared that he recently drove without using the car’s air conditioner.
He claimed a Grab passenger asked him to turn on the AC, but he insisted on a 20% surcharge for the service.
The passenger refused to pay the extra fee and endured the ride in a sweltering car.
When the passenger threatened to report him, the driver argued it was fair to charge extra, just like coffee shops charge more for iced drinks.
He was firm in his belief that using the air conditioner in the car is not a mandatory service and should be chargeable.
He encouraged the passenger to file a complaint and urged other drivers to also charge extra for using their vehicle’s air conditioner.
Netizens were shocked by the driver’s stance, with one person asking for his name so she could block him on the app, whether it’s InDrive or Grab.
One netizen shared a screenshot of her report to the Grab Help Centre, where customer service responded that they “will mark the issue for further investigation.”
Meanwhile, it appears the driver deleted his post following the backlash.
Some people joked, asking if the air inside the car was included in the fare or required an extra charge.
Another joked that the driver might want to charge 20% per word if a customer asked him any questions.
