Malaysian Celebrities Among 10 Detained in Gaza Humanitarian Flotilla Interception

Mission of peace ends in illegal detention

 

Ten Malaysian citizens, including well-known personalities such as Zizi Kirana, Heliza Helmi and her sister Hazwani Helmi, have reportedly been illegally detained by Israeli forces. The group was part of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), a humanitarian convoy heading towards Gaza when their vessels were intercepted in international waters last Thursday.

The incident was confirmed via a statement posted by Sumud Nusantara Official on social media. Several boats in the flotilla, including the Hio — which carried Heliza and Hazwani — were reportedly raided and taken over by Israeli military personnel.

Pre-recorded Video of Heliza Resurfaces

Ahead of the mission, a precautionary video was recorded and released, showing Heliza Helmi stating what to do if they were captured.

“My name is Heliza Helmi. I am a Malaysian citizen. If you are watching this video, it means I have been abducted against my will by Israeli soldiers,” she said.

Heliza went on to clarify that their mission was peaceful, non-violent, and fully in accordance with international law. She called upon the Malaysian government, especially Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to secure their immediate and unconditional release.

The names of those reportedly detained by Israeli forces include:

• Zizi Kirana

• Heliza Helmi

• Hazwani Helmi

• Haikal Abdullah

• Muaz Zainal

• Zulfadhli Khairudin

• Rusydi Ramli

These individuals were aboard the Sirius ship, which was intercepted at 9:47 PM Gaza time on 1 October 2025.

Three more Malaysians were aboard the Alma ship and faced the same fate:

• Iylia Balqis

• Musa Nuwayri

• Sul Aidil

The Alma was intercepted slightly earlier at 9:44 PM Gaza time.
