Indian Traveller Expresses Disappointment After Visiting KL, Shares Shocking Experience
Indian Tourist Shares Eye-Opening Experience in KL, Expresses Disappointment After Returning Home
“I Just Returned From KL, And I’m Disappointed”
A recent confession from an Indian traveller has gained attention online after he candidly described how his dream trip to Malaysia turned into a disappointing experience. In a social media post, the traveller detailed what he encountered during his trip to Kuala Lumpur, and how it made him feel ashamed, despite being excited to visit the country.
Hospitality and Cleanliness Didn’t Meet Expectations
He began his post by clarifying that this was not an attack against Malaysia or its citizens. “I love Malaysia,” he said, before explaining that his frustration stemmed from a particular experience at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) as well as in the city.
Upon landing, he noticed what he described as a lack of hygiene in several parts of the airport. He claimed that the washrooms were in poor condition and that some staff did not appear courteous or welcoming, which was surprising for an international hub that frequently receives tourists from around the world.
Alleged Disrespect at Local Establishments
The traveller went on to say that while walking around the city and entering certain shops and restaurants, he felt out of place due to the way he was looked at or ignored. He shared that some locals were helpful and kind, but others seemed impatient or indifferent — something he hadn’t expected from a country often celebrated for its hospitality.
This treatment led him to question whether his appearance or nationality had influenced the way he was perceived by some members of the public.
“I’m Ashamed To Admit I Felt Unwelcome”
The most emotional part of his post was when he admitted feeling “ashamed” to acknowledge that his trip had not lived up to his expectations. He felt a sharp contrast between the Malaysia he had imagined and what he encountered in certain areas.
Though he did not intend to generalise all Malaysians, he called for better training for those in tourism and service sectors, particularly in how they engage with foreigners.
Calls for Constructive Reflection, Not Hate
Despite the disappointment, the traveller ended his post on a hopeful note. He said he wished for Malaysia to become better not just for tourists, but also for its citizens — as a place where kindness, efficiency, and unity thrive.
His post sparked discussion across social platforms, with some Malaysians expressing regret and apologising for his negative experience, while others debated whether his observations were fair or isolated.
One user commented, “We need to take feedback seriously and work on it. Tourism is one of our biggest strengths.” Another added, “It’s not just about impressing tourists — it’s about maintaining standards for everyone.”
