M’sian Cosplayer Reports AI-Edited Nude Photos of Herself Being Sold Online

Source: SAYS

The images were allegedly edited using artificial intelligence (AI) and sold for RM2 per photo or RM18 for an album on Tumblr without her consent.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Elyana expressed her shock and frustration, emphasizing that being a cosplayer does not give anyone the right to misuse her content.

Perpetrator Identified

Elyana managed to identify the perpetrator by posing as a customer, obtaining his full name and banking QR code. While the case has been reported to the police, she highlighted that the issue goes beyond her photos—images of fully-clothed Muslim women and even minors were also edited inappropriately by the same individual.

“Yes, I’m aware that I’m a cosplayer, and this (being sexualized) is something we face regularly. However, it is WRONG IN THE LAW to sell naked photos,” Elyana wrote in response to online accusations.

She further clarified, “I hate being accused of selling such photos. I’m just a cosplayer who enjoys expressing herself, and I’m strongly against creating NSFW (not safe for work) content. I have my limits.”

Police Investigation Underway

Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Shahrulnizam Ja’afar confirmed receiving the report. The case is being investigated under Section 292 of the Penal Code, which pertains to the distribution of obscene material.

Additionally, the case has been referred to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for further action.

Broader Issue of Consent and Exploitation

Elyana’s case has shed light on the larger issue of AI misuse, particularly in creating explicit content without consent. Her story has sparked discussions online about the need for stricter laws and enforcement to protect individuals from such exploitation.

Netizens have expressed support for Elyana, commending her bravery for speaking up and taking action.

💬 “This is not just about cosplayers; it’s about consent and basic human rights,” one user commented.

💬 “AI technology needs to be regulated to prevent such abuses. No one deserves this,” added another.
