M’sian Woman Furious After JPJ Seizes Alphard Despite Immediate Road Tax Plea

Pahang Woman Slams JPJ for Seizing Family Alphard Over Expired Road Tax

A Malaysian woman has gone public with her frustration after officers from the Road Transport Department (JPJ) seized her luxury Toyota Alphard from outside her own home, despite her immediate attempts to renew the road tax on the spot.

The Alphard Belonged to Her Late Husband

The vehicle’s owner, Sara Nara, a businesswoman from Pahang, took to social media to share her distressing experience. She explained that the Alphard had originally belonged to her late husband and was still used by her to manage her daily routines and care for her children.

The incident happened on 30 August, when JPJ officers arrived during what appeared to be an operation targeting luxury vehicles.

“They said the road tax was expired. I immediately called my insurance agent to get it renewed on the spot, right in front of them,” she said.

Despite her plea to be issued a summons instead, and even explaining that she had simply forgotten to renew the road tax, the officers proceeded to seize the vehicle. Her children were reportedly in the car and were left in tears during the ordeal.

Bazaar Plans Destroyed After Seizure

Sara also revealed that the Alphard was loaded with items she intended to use for a booth at a local bazaar. With the car seized, her business plans were completely disrupted.

The officers reportedly told her she could retrieve the car once the road tax was active and the grant was shown. Trusting their word, she followed through with the road tax activation and went to claim the vehicle.

Road Tax Renewed, But JPJ Refused to Release Car

However, when she returned to retrieve the Alphard, she was told that she lacked the required legal documentation as the administrator of her late husband’s estate — a complication she had warned the officers about earlier.

“The road tax is paid. The car is no longer under bank loan. But they’re saying I can’t get it back because I’m not legally the estate administrator,” she explained in frustration.

She questioned the rigidity of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) being applied, pointing out that this wasn’t a criminal case involving a stolen or drug-related vehicle.

“This is a family car. I use it to send my kids to school, to manage my business. It’s our main mode of transportation. I’m exhausted and heartbroken.”

“Are JPJ Officers Just Robots Following SOPs?”

Sara concluded her post by questioning JPJ’s lack of compassion and flexibility in such situations.

She described the situation as emotionally and financially draining, especially as she tries to move forward after her husband’s passing while raising four young children.

“Do JPJ officers really just follow SOPs without any room for understanding? I hope their families never have to go through what mine is going through.”
