Woman Scams Rich Men for RM118k to Fund Lavish Dream Life

Woman Targets Rich Boyfriends to Chase Luxury Lifestyle

A 24-year-old woman from China, surnamed Yin, was arrested after it was discovered she had been dating wealthy men, moving into their homes, and stealing from them to finance her dream lifestyle. Her goal? To save 10 million yuan (about RM5 million) and buy a luxury home in Shenzhen.

Reinventing Herself to Lure the Wealthy

Yin began her operation in March 2021 while working at a karaoke bar in Shanghai. She joined social and dating chat groups, presenting herself as a refined socialite. Her transformation included plastic surgery, etiquette classes, and wine tasting lessons to appear more sophisticated. She followed a disciplined fitness routine and obsessed over luxury after attending a grand wedding that reignited her ambitions.

“My parents could not give me the life I wanted, so I built it for myself,” she said.

RM118,000 Stolen from 8 Men in Elaborate Heist

Posing as a loyal girlfriend, Yin would move into the homes of affluent men she met online. While they were away, she hired movers to empty their villas—taking everything from designer accessories to furniture and electronics. She then sold the stolen goods online. In a short span, she made off with over 200,000 yuan (RM118,000) from eight victims.

Interestingly, most of the men chose not to report the thefts, likely due to embarrassment and fear of public shame.

Living Frugally Despite Her Schemes

Despite the amount she stole, Yin lived modestly—spending less than RM20 a day, relying on free makeup samples, and living in a basement hotel room. She claimed the money was never used for reckless shopping but rather for her real estate goals.

“I only wanted money to buy a house. I wasn’t spending recklessly,” she explained during police questioning.

Caught by Hidden Cameras, Arrested in 2022

Yin’s downfall came when her ninth target, a man named Zhang, installed surveillance cameras in his home. The footage captured her in the act of clearing out his house. He filed a police report, leading to her arrest in February 2022.

She was charged with theft and fraud. Although prosecuted, the authorities did not publicly disclose the exact sentence she received.
