Bag Snatching Incident Goes Viral In Malaysia
A woman’s routine stop to pump petrol turned into a shocking incident after a motorcyclist snatched her bag in broad daylight at a petrol station in Puchong Jaya, Selangor.
The incident reportedly happened on 10 February at a Shell petrol station just days before Chinese New Year.
Dashcam footage of the incident later surfaced online and quickly spread across social media platforms, capturing the moment the theft occurred.
Suspect Circled The Petrol Station Before Striking
Based on the video shared online, the motorcyclist was seen circling the petrol station forecourt once, appearing to observe the surroundings.
Moments later, he returned on his motorcycle and moved close to the woman who was standing beside her car pumping petrol.
Within seconds, the suspect grabbed the bag directly off her shoulder before speeding away from the scene.
According to the victim, the stolen bag contained several important belongings including her phone, wallet, house keys and car keys.
Victim Shared The Video As A Safety Reminder
The victim, who goes by the Instagram handle @cabibibi, uploaded the dashcam footage to social media not to seek sympathy but to remind others to stay alert in public spaces.
She wrote that she hoped the video would serve as a warning for people to always be aware of their surroundings.
“Sharing this as a reminder to always be aware of your surroundings, don’t be so blur like me,” she wrote in the caption.
After the incident happened, she reportedly asked a driver behind her for help before heading to the police station to lodge a report.
Online Reactions Turned Into A Blame Debate
While the post gained widespread attention and sympathy, it also triggered a heated discussion among netizens.
The video received around 94,000 likes, but many comments focused on criticising the victim rather than condemning the thief.
Some users claimed she was careless for carrying her bag while pumping petrol, suggesting it made her an easier target for criminals.
One comment even stated, “Bodoh nak isi minyak bawa beg,” implying that bringing a bag out of the car while refuelling was a mistake.
Netizens Push Back Against Victim Blaming
However, many others strongly disagreed with the criticism directed at the victim.
One of the most-liked comments online argued that blaming the victim was unfair.
“Stop acting like it’s her fault for wearing her bag. The only reason a robbery happens is because someone chose to rob,” the comment read.
