Drunk Army Officer Crash Sparks Outrage In Malaysia

Fatal Crash Raises Serious Questions

A tragic accident on the MEX Highway has sparked outrage after a Malaysian army officer was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and causing a fatal crash. The incident, which happened around 5.38am, involved a Perodua Alza used for e-hailing and a Ford Fiesta driven by the 31-year-old officer, who reportedly drove into oncoming traffic before colliding head-on with the vehicle.

Drunk Driving Leads To Loss Of Life

According to Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Zamzuri Isa, the crash resulted in the death of a 22-year-old Bangladeshi male passenger who was seated in the middle of the back row. He suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Alza was carrying two Bangladeshi passengers from KLIA, while the female passenger sustained multiple injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Hospital Kuala Lumpur. The e-hailing driver also suffered head injuries, while the officer and another passenger in his car sustained minor injuries.

Public Anger Over Discipline & Accountability

Breathalyser tests confirmed that the army officer’s blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit, although drug tests came back negative. The case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by driving under the influence of alcohol. The incident has triggered strong reactions, with many questioning how someone in uniform could be involved in such behaviour, raising concerns about discipline, responsibility, and the standards expected from members of the armed forces.
