“I’m Back!” River Monsters Legend Jeremy Wade Returns At 70, Nearly A Decade After The Show Ended!

Legendary River Monsters presenter Jeremy Wade is returning at 70, nearly nine years after the popular television series ended in 2017. His new project, Fish On! With Jeremy Wade, is a 20-episode video podcast featuring untold stories, behind-the-scenes experiences and previously unseen footage. The podcast launches for Patreon subscribers on 20 October 2026 before becoming publicly available on 27 October.

Jeremy Wade Announces His Return At 70, Nine Years After River Monsters Ended

For millions of viewers who grew up watching River Monsters, Jeremy Wade was more than just a television presenter. He was the fearless British angler who travelled to some of the world’s most remote rivers, investigating terrifying stories about mysterious freshwater creatures and tracking down fish that looked almost impossible to believe. Now, at 70 years old, Wade has announced his return to the world that made him famous, nearly nine years after River Monsters aired its final season in 2017. On 12 October 2026, the official River Monsters social media account began teasing his comeback with a video featuring the familiar presenter, followed by a simple announcement declaring his return. The news immediately caught the attention of longtime fans who remembered watching Wade encounter enormous catfish, giant freshwater stingrays and other extraordinary aquatic creatures throughout the show’s nine-season run. However, his comeback does not mean River Monsters is officially returning for a tenth season. Instead, Wade is introducing a new project that revisits the adventures, discoveries and extraordinary experiences that helped make the original series a global success.

Fish On! Will Reveal Untold Stories And Unseen River Monsters Footage

Wade’s new project, Fish On! With Jeremy Wade, is a 20-episode video podcast that will reunite him with longtime friend and television collaborator Scott Tankard. Rather than sending Wade straight back into dangerous rivers to hunt enormous fish, the series will explore the stories that viewers never got to hear during the original television programme. The pair will revisit memorable catches, dangerous encounters, unexplained mysteries and unexpected situations that happened behind the cameras. Members of the original production team are also expected to appear, sharing additional insights into what it was really like filming River Monsters in remote locations around the world. The project promises previously unreleased footage and extended conversations about experiences that could not fit into the original episodes. Fans who subscribe through Patreon will receive early access beginning 20 October 2026, while the podcast is scheduled to become publicly available on 27 October through platforms including YouTube and Spotify. Although the format is different from the original show, it gives audiences another opportunity to hear Wade explain the extraordinary events that made his fishing expeditions so memorable.

Why River Monsters Remains Popular Almost A Decade After Its Finale

Despite ending in 2017, River Monsters has continued attracting enormous audiences, including younger viewers who discovered Jeremy Wade through online videos rather than traditional television. Originally launched in 2009, the series became famous for combining fishing, wildlife investigation and suspenseful storytelling, often beginning with reports of frightening encounters before Wade attempted to identify the creature responsible. After nine seasons, Wade decided to end the programme because he believed he had investigated nearly everything on his original list of mysterious freshwater fish. However, the show’s popularity never completely disappeared. According to figures reported by ITV Studios, River Monsters content generated more than 1.74 billion views across social video platforms over the past year, averaging approximately 4.77 million views daily. Those figures demonstrate how the series continues reaching audiences long after its original television run. Wade’s new podcast builds on that enduring interest by offering viewers something different from a conventional revival: the chance to discover what happened beyond the edited episodes. While fans may still hope to see him return to the water for another full television series, no official announcement has confirmed a new season of River Monsters.
