“I Know It’s CNY, But Common Sense” – Influencer Says Meal Ruined by Firecrackers
Firecrackers Set Off Next to Mamak Eatery

The Abe Wee firecrackers CNY eatery incident gained attention after the Malaysian content creator expressed frustration over firecrackers being ignited beside a mamak restaurant where he was dining.
Abe Wee was having a meal with fellow content creator Mek Yun during Chinese New Year celebrations when individuals allegedly set off firecrackers directly next to the eatery.

In a TikTok video shared on 18 February, he showed thick smoke filling the area while a restaurant employee was cooking nearby. The firecrackers were reportedly ignited very close to their table.
“I Understand It’s CNY, But…”
In the viral clip, both Abe Wee and Mek Yun appeared visibly uncomfortable. At one point, Abe Wee was seen rubbing his eyes due to the smoke.
“I understand it’s CNY, and it’s just once a year, but…”
He stated that while he respects the festive atmosphere, setting off firecrackers beside a restaurant while customers are eating is inappropriate.
“We were eating, and suddenly the place was full of smoke.
“There go my Roti Sardin and iced tea. They reeked of smoke and were littered with debris from the firecrackers,” he shared.
Calls for Consideration During Festive Celebrations
In his post, Abe Wee clarified that he was not calling for a ban on firecrackers. Instead, he urged the public to exercise consideration and choose more suitable locations or timings.
“This isn’t just about CNY, but for all festive seasons too,” he added.
He suggested that if firecrackers are to be set off, it should be done before restaurants open or in more spacious areas where diners would not be affected.
Reminder from Authorities
The Royal Malaysia Police has previously stated that fireworks are not permitted after midnight nationwide. The public has also been advised to set them off only in appropriate locations.
The incident has since sparked discussion online about balancing festive traditions with public consideration.
